Yesterday I started making a new app/website called Half & Half. I've recently gotten really hooked into coffee shops even though I don't even drink coffee. I used to go to Bennu, which I liked because it was like a library to me. I had never thought of coffee shops as a place to stay until 3am to get work done, and this whole time I thought it was a place to go hang out for an hour and drink coffee. This is why I decided to create a site where you can search for coffee shops that have that specific vibe throughout the country. This is the landing page that I made so far. I'm going for the simple and minimalistic look because that's trendy right now.
I'm using Divshot to host my site because it's static, and it's super easy and awesome! I did have to get around a security (administrator permission) error when installing divshot with npm. I simply got around that by doing
sudo chown -R $USER /usr/local
I was going to make my Craigslist app but that had to be put on hold. The API that I was going to use was recently shutdown because Craigslist is stingy in their info sharing. I could use a ruby gem called Nokogiri and make a web crawler, but there's a lot of stuff I'll have to teach myself which I don't have much time for with my job hunt at the moment. I'm already forming a bad habit of procrastinating on the job hunt because I get so caught up with writing code so I have to restrict myself to a couple hours a day which would never happen if I start learning about web crawlers haha.
