Today was my fifth day of work :) I made it one week!
It's been really fun so far because I love the culture of the company. Even though the position I accepted is a developer intern position (I had a different offer that was a fulltime fullstack dev position and another intern to hire position) I think I made the best choice. The WPengine office is super cool, we are a 4 year company with over 200 employees now (crazy growth!) and the people are so smart. I'm excited to be working with these people and we also get free lunch every day :D
Oh not to mention, an amazing work computer (most recent 15 inch macbook with 16GB of RAM and the i7 processor... YES!!).
But also now that the weekend is finally here, I can go back to studying :] I decided to really go further with my playlist recommendation engine so be excited about what is to come next! Theres a guy that was a mentor at Startup Weekend that is super interested in my app and wants to work on it with me. He is a physics major + software engineer + used to be financial trader + now data scientist so he is just as excited about recommender systems as I am!
Right now I am taking the Coursera machine learning class and reading about random forests. I know that the next step for me is to somehow make an environment so that it's scalable... as in it won't hurt to add more playlists. I need to initially cluster the playlists so that I can prevent looping through all of them. I need to somehow compare all of the playlists to each other. If anyone has any insight let me know! In the mean time I'm watching this video:
